Jeff Winship, Computer Graphics Consultant
Wouldn’t it be nice if someday you, the client, the big cheese, the guy writing the check for all the fancy 3d graphics could
actually sit at your own computer and view the 3d model? Even better, wouldn't it be nice if you could integrate add a computer
model into a Microsoft Word document or Powerpoint presentation that you could manipulate interactively? Imagine being able
to rotate around, zoom in, and print or save the views of the model that YOU want? With the new release of Autodesk®’s DWF
Viewer version 6.5, the wait is over. And the best part is, it’s free.
No longer do you have to relinquish the flight controls to your favorite graphics-geek. The software gives you the ability to:
- Rotate the camera view around the model
- Zoom and Pan
- Move or hide different parts of the model
- Achieve x-ray vision by making a component of the model semi-transparent
- Slice the model through various planes to create a section view.
- Capture and save snapshot images of the views you create, or print them directly from the application
- Embed a 3D Model into Microsoft Word 2000 or Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 or later versions
This last feature should come in handy for populating those last minute PowerPoint® presentations with cool and informative
All it takes is an easy to install, free download of Autodesk®’s new DWF Viewer. Give it a quick try at this link.

Step 1: Download and Install the DWF Viewer Software
First, you’ll need the free viewer from Autodesk®. Go to the following link and follow the prompts to download and install the
DWF viewer on your computer. The download may take a few minutes so please be patient.
Step 2: Download a 3D model from our site
A sample model can be downloaded from our web site by right-clicking on the link below and choosing "Save Target As", then
navigate to the folder on your computer where you want to save the DWF model.
**Do not click the link below before completing Step 1 or you will receive a series of really annoying error messages.
Step 3: Open the model in the DWF Viewer
There are two different ways to do this:
- Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder where you saved the 'Pumpjack.dwf' file. Double-click the 'Pumpjack.
dwf' file to launch the AutoDesk DWF Viewer software and load the model.
If you have any problems with the download or questions about how to use it, feel free to call me.
Have fun at the wheel!
